Competence Versus Genetics

Postby Del Fuego on Tue Aug 04, 2009 5:48 pm

Hey everyone,
I was wondering, when selecting the best stud for my mare, should I look for the highest competence in a skill, or the highest genetic potential in a skill, in order to get the best result in my foals???? I don't know which whether the higher actual competence would result in the foal having more inborn skills, or whether that is just determined by the BLUP, or what... I know that I need a stud with 100 BLUP, and I always look for 100% Arab to breed with my 100% Arab mare, but I'm stuck on whether to pick a stud with a higher skills over a stud with a higher GP... help????

Thank you!!!!

I always go for the higher GP. When I look for a stud, I go for the highest GP possible.
You can tell a gelding, you can ask a stallion, but you must discuss it with a mare.
