Value of certain Black Market items

Postby nesta85way on Sun Jun 01, 2008 2:14 pm

I don't buy passes. I just don't have the funding for them. If I did, I'd buy the chronos timer for every horse.

But that doen't mean I have no Black Market items. I just happen to get ones I don't care for and don't know what to do with.

I got Eolus's wind in the HoP that was a reward for solving one of the puzzles. I haven't used it, yet. It enhances the skills in galloping, trotting, and jumping. The problem is that for all of my horses, two of the three are not their top three skills.

How do you decide who to give it to? I don't think any of them have one of those as the top skill, either.

Last night, I got a UFO Piece of Cloud. Again, I'm not sure what the point is. If we go back in time four months, does my horse keep it's current training and BLUP? I suppose that might save some time, if s/he does. But if not, I don't see the point.

It seems foolish to waste these items people spend money to get, but I can't figure out what the point is, or why I would use them. If I could figure out that, maybe I could figure out which horse to grace with the item. I know only two are old enough to get the PoC, so I suppose that narrows it down further. But I'm afraid of losing some BLUP or training or something.

Anybody know something more about these items? If you've used them, tell me about why. That might help me figure out what to do with them!

I thought about asking this on the forums on howrse, but figured they'd see it as critical and lock it. It really isn't. I just want to understand the value, the point, so I better know how to use it.

So if you think one of these items is just great, and use it on numerous horses, I'm not saying you are wasting money at all. You can probably help me understand what to use them for!

Well, the Eolus' Wind ups the skills of the three most important and defined areas on Howrse: Jumping, Trotting and Galloping. Why have I used it in the past? For a couple reasons; Eolus' wind completed the "set" of BM items that I used to put on my howrses (everything except the Black Orchid, Zeus' Lightning Bolt, Piece of Cloud and the Golden Apple.) When I had all those items on one howrse, they blew everyone else out of the water when it came to comps and thus I was able to get them to 100 BLUP faster and breed better foals.

With the Piece of Cloud, you do get to keep your skill and BLUP levels when you go back four months. The PoC is very popular with people who are trying to get their howrse to 100 BLUP before the age of ten, but the howrse just isn't there yet - they take the howrse back four months, do what training/competing they need to do and 'boom,' they have a 100 BLUP howrse.

I am one of the people that has spent A LOT of money on passes. There are days when I look back at those decisions and shake my head at the ridiculousness of spending so much money on pixels and other days when I'm fine with it - that really depends on my mood. I admit, though, that I have given up on passes. Partially because of new financial responsibilities that have shown up in my life and partially because I just can't compete with those that can afford to buy several pass sets a week. If you can afford it, more power to ya, but I am just not capable of paying to have the privilege to be at the top of the rankings, unfortunately. And of course, it got to a point where I was not getting my equus nor my passes back via the sales, so no profit on my side.

Hope this helps some,

Thank you. I still can't figure out who to give the Eolus' Wind to, but I finally decided what to do with the PoC, especially since I learned nothing would be lost. In my two older horses, one had been better trained than the other (I bought the one when it was past four years), so I decided to give that one the PoC. In the end, he might come out more advanced than the other!

I don't know what I will decide about the Eolus' Wind, but I don't guess I have to decide right away. If somebody really needs some help down the line to win comps, maybe that will be the candidate.

I know what you mean about being unable to compete. I know some use the chronos timer and Morpheus Arms on every horse. That's five passes! I just couldn't possibly do that for every single one. I couldn't do it if it were a dollar a pass, and it is more than that!

So I'll have to make the best of plain old ordinary horses! Just tell me 100 BLUP is doable without passes, and I'm okay with it. I'm assuming that it is.

yes, you can get a horse to 100 Blup without passes. It will take longer. I've gotten a bunch of my geldings to 100 Blup. I'm even trying to bold them in all skills before they get to 25 yrs.

I've only used the wind on horses that just can't seem o get a win. It really does help. I had collected a bunch of POC's and finally used them on a doublestar TB filly. It was nice to get her to 100 Blup at 10yrs.
You can tell a gelding, you can ask a stallion, but you must discuss it with a mare.

Please don't "hijack" other people's threads, froglover. You're welcome to advertise this in the off topics forum, though.
