Not necessarily. I'm only at my third riding level, and I've bred two horses, and so far both have been purebred and green stared. The green star I admit was a fluke, but the purebred was intentional. When at the profile of the horse you plan on having covering your mare, you can check their family tree. Looking back at their origins, you can see if the horse is pure or another. Along with clicking the 'origin' tab beside the 'list of awards tab' you can see if the stallion you want to cover your pair is pure, or how many of other breeds it has percentage wise.

When you first start playing you can't see the "origin" tab. When you go to buy a horse you can search for purebreeds only on both the auctions and Private Sales.

Liveei, please watch the chat speak. It takes awhile to figure out what you are trying say.
You can tell a gelding, you can ask a stallion, but you must discuss it with a mare.

Or if you cant get into the sales yet because you havnt reached riding lvl 2 and you want to breed with your foundation mare (if you started out with a mare) you can also click 100% pure when finding a stallion.
