As you might have noticed, there is a Foal training guide posted by our lovely lexio2 on this forum. It is very well thought out and helpful, but what if you don't know how to correctly get a foal? Stumped aren't you? I will give you tips and advice below on how to have a wonderful foal.
First, you must plan what you want this foal will be used for. Will it be used for competitions? Or are you trying to find the perfect breeding horse that will have stud prices of 1000e or give birth to champion foals? Will you just have it for a pleasure horse or sell to make some more equus? Either way, you want the foal to be the best it can be. Lets say you wanted a foal for breeding purposes, and your lovely mare Lily of Blossoming Flowers is the mare you want to be the foal's mother. Before you consider breeding Lily, she must have very high BLUP and skills. It will be best for her to have her training completed, have a little age, and have a couple of compititions under her girth. Then you might get a fairly decent foal out of the mare.
The mother is not the only thing you should be considering. You must have a stallion that has very good skills and BLUP, too, so the foal can inherit from his nice breeding and training too. When looking, look for positive BLUP, nicely skilled, and has the bloodline and breed you are looking for. If you are looking for another TB like Lily, you must make sure you have passed level four to see his genetics.
Note: Make sure you have passed level four before you consider breeding.
It may have taken you a long time to find the right stallion for your mare, but you have chosen. Now it is time for finances. Grab your calulator and ask yourself some questions.
Is there a vet for my mare at my EC? Say you dont have a vet at your EC. That will cost 600 e for the delivery.
What is my stallions stud fee? Say your stallion in particular is 700e. You must add that on to your bill.
What are the living expenses before and after birth? Usely 500e if you only have a mare a foal.
Note: You may chose to have an ultrasound to see the gender and color, but it is not recommended if you are low on equus. It is 50 equus.
When you total all of this together, you have a total of 1800e. Can you believe that it is that much to have a foal? It is, and many deaths of foals are caused every day because someone did not prepare themselves correctly. Please make sure you have that amount in your reserve. Alot of breeder state that you must have 2,000 e in your account before they will even consider letting their stud breed with you.
Okay, you have everything planned for your foal, you can now pronounce that you are ready to breed and have a cute, cuddly foal of your own.
