WARNING: Beware of hackers!

Postby lexio2 on Sun Oct 21, 2007 4:41 pm

I am copying this straight from the warning Ckat posted in the Off Topic forum:

Howrse is being repeatedly hit with a hacker. They are getting into peoples accounts two ways. One is through the private sales and I do not have all of the info on that one yet.

The other is through the following email:

Message de Hacker Woman pour Ckat envoyé le 21 october 2007 18:10:33 :

> could you join my game? just to help my game get some morep layers you don't have to play just sign up click here to sign up
>
> if the link doesn't work try htis adress:
>
>http://www.ponypaws *the rest of this link deleted for your safety*

It has a "brute force password grabber" virus on it and will grab passwords to any site it is clicked on... including ours... Evil or Very Mad

The part where it says "click here to sign up" is a hot link. When you click on it it immediately allows them to be able to hack into your account on howrse. They are after passes!! One of my dear friends lost her horses, passes, and they deleted her account.

IF YOU RECEIVE ONE OF THESE USE THE REPORT AN ABUSE BOTTON AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE AND SEND IT STRAIGHT TO ADMIN! ie: LOGOW!

This person or persons must be stopped!!![/b]

Please do not respond to this person in anyway. Help keep Howrse safe for everyone!

Ckat

and REMEMBER: NEVER give out your password! If you are going away for a few days your horses with be exactly the way you left them when you come back, you DO NOT need to ask ANYONE to mind them for you. ESPECIALLY A STRANGER!

Keep your accounts safe. If you have any questions about possible hackers on howrse please contact one of the howrse mods.

This is also two messages I got after talking with Smokin Dudette

Hey mandy0, Tx's account got hacked earlier today and she is currently in contact with admin and hopefully will get her full account back. Just don't visit any off site links sent to you by lightning-my-pony.

And..
Did you happen to get a message from lightning-my-pony about a ponypaws site? If you did could you please transfer it to zepharo for logow.

Zepharo is the account they want these hacker troubles to go to but Logow works too.

I will, all 50 some of them lol and to think of it: lightning-my-pony was talking to me, but i stopped because they were creaping me out, which was unusual for such a civilized game

My sister sir walter bought a horse from lightning-my-pony and then one of her passes went up missing. Wonder if she stole her pass..

That is a very good question and one for the admins on Howrse. I suggest that your sister use the contact us button in the profile page and ask the question of the admins. If it is so, and enough are reported it will get their attention.

I would report that too. There was something flitting around about passes being stolen through the private sales but I could never pin it down. Use the contact us button in your profile page to report the stolen pass.

Believe it. One of my friends was hacked. Her acct was deleted, her horses went to heaven, (some top paints at the time) and her passes stolen. It is not a laughing matter and it is all too real.
